This is actually a 100% valid coping mechanism. We all do it. Whether you’re feeling sorry for yourself, you’ve had a bad day at work or you’re generally an emotional soul, it’s a very real thing.
What is emotional eating?
Using food to provide comfort.
Know that it’s not something to be ashamed of.
It serves a purpose.
It CAN ease feelings of discomfort.
It can be part of a vicious cycle.
It can make you feel worse.
It can make you feel guilty.
It can make you hate yourself.
What can you do about it?
Stop, Pause, Think.
Am I actually hungry
If yes, eat. If no, have an action plan
Have a list in your notes of 5 things that bring you joy. Do one of them!
Going for a walk is number one for most people
If you’re lonely? Call a friend
If you’re exhausted or tired? Have a rest
If none of these work? Seek help.
