On Wednesday past, I was invited back to Kilkeel High School to help out at an interview skills day for year 12. It was only the second time I’ve been back since leaving in 2009. For most of the pupils, this was the first time they’d ever been in an interview scenario. It took me back to the first interview I ever had to do, and the feelings that come along with it…sheer terror and nerves.
For someone who has never exercised or has been to a gym before, it can be the exact same thing, but worse! So many pieces of equipment, lots of others who look fit and seem to know what they’re doing. It’s fair to say, the gym isn’t for everyone, there’s always an alternative (a nice walk/cycle/swim to name a few), but with practice and proper coaching, it doesn’t take long to build confidence in the gym, opening up a whole new realm of ways to keep fit and improve your health.
If you’ve never been to a gym or personal training studio before, don’t let this put you off. Everyone has a starting point, don’t be scared to lift the phone or call in to your local gym, chances are you’ll never look back!
