Is Breakfast Really The Most Important Meal Of The Day?

by | Mar 15, 2022

We aren’t so sure 🤔
The common line we always hear, “Breakfast kick starts your metabolism.” Do you struggle to lose weight because of your metabolism? Is breakfast the jump start your your body needs before you go to work? The prompt that your internal organs need to encourage them to do their job?
Let’s break it down to the basics.
Energy in v energy out.
Assuming exercise was identical, if we..
1. Eat breakfast and consume 1500 calories, versus the next day…
2. Don’t eat breakfast , but consume 1700calories.
Which day are we more likely to lose more body fat?
The answer is number 1.
However, it is possible that eating breakfast will result in us being less hungry in the evening time, it might help prevent the 3pm slump, it might give us more energy to train.
Eating breakfast might work for one person, but not for another. We need to learn how our bodies function. Try eating it one day and then not a different day. Which day do you feel better?
If you track your calorie intake or keep a food diary for a few days, you’ll be able to compare like for like.
A massive factor in the equation is WHAT you actually eat for breakfast…
A bowl of cornflakes, boiled egg on toast, fruit and yoghurt, a protein shake, all of which have different nutritional values and properties. Which is best I hear you ask? It’s all about balance. It’s dependant on what you eat the rest of the day. Have you ate a variety of colour? Consumed a mixture of fat sources? Fibre? Protein? Complex carbs? Etc Etc.
The conclusion, eat breakfast if you fancy it, but don’t stress about missing it. Track your calories for a few days if you’re struggling to lose weight, you’ll very quickly realise where you’re going wrong. If you need some help with this, get in touch today 🤳
